StoryPaws was birthed when Anne lost her Bestie, Peetie Pie. He is a Golden Retriever who lived from puppyhood until the day he died, with her and her incredibly loving to both people and animals, family.
It wasn’t until Anne told me her story with Peetie, how he helped her through very hard times in life, how much of a genuine friend he had been, in many ways doing things for her and being there to help her when no one else seemed capable-of, - That I suddenly realized all the animals in my life were exactly and equally that, for me.
But up until that moment in my life, I just hadn’t let the impact of that truth, hit me.
From that moment, I began rushing to make right, all the animal relationships in my life I’ve been blessed with, all the little kittens who I knew in my childhood, all the stray dogs our family took in, even thinking of the way birds who have flown into art studios I’ve rented and houses I’ve live in. When taken all together, suddenly made me deeply appreciate and feel a keen sense of humility to all the blessing awareness that all these meetings, were no accident.
Sometimes, I’ve since often thought, it’s only when we put things down on paper, and look - Is the only time we’ll see a pattern emerge. And this time, the pattern was painted and written beautifully in a lifetime of pawprint after pawprint of friendships. Some I’ve absolutely loved and known the names of, fed and cuddled-with and walked with. I’m sure most, though, only saw me, and hoped one day I’d think to wonder their names.
StoryPaws is the place where I tell the stories of people’s animals that those animals themselves, don’t use words to tell. Instead, they use the nuance of gesture, eye contact, timing of their appearance not only in our day to day lives, but even when they showed up in our lives at that very moment. Their words are really the emotional impressions left upon and inside us, where we suddenly know what they were saying, hopefully, when its important.
Every one of those stories is different. They’re each told from the perspective and life of that particular dog, cat, squirrel, hummingbird, or whatever other animal I’ve had the literal pleasure of meeting, or if they’ve passed, whose story I’ve had the honor of listening to told through the voice of their Beloved human Mother or Father.
The laughter, tears, the joyful recollection of their animal lives, being brought back to our senses through the meeting with their living human Bestie.
Thank you for visiting, it’s my most special pleasure you’ve stopped in,
To make a StoryPaw, I use my lifetime of artistic talents to listen and look, to fully take in the story and vision of an animal. Then I begin using my meditative and prayer process, where I ask my artistic and spiritual mind and Guides to assist me in hearing the animal’s soul, tell me its story.
When it begins to come, I grab my iPhone if that’s closest, or my journal and pen, and begin writing down what the animal’s voice is saying, as they almost always sound as human as we humans sometimes try to sound.
It’s almost as if they, like us, in their spiritual realm shared still living and physically, or departed and soulfully - Are eager and waiting, just like we humans often time are, to tell us “what really happened,” “what they were really thinking,” and “experiencing” in their furrisomely amazing lives, cohabiting between our two feet. And sometimes, even our laps.
I use my God’s gifted talent of drawing and painting, sometimes with my digital tablet, sometimes with my watercolors pastels or other traditional art medium - To make eternal the joy and heart-changing emotion each and every of our animals has, but mores to bring to our lives.
